Effects of Tai Chi Self-help Program on Functional Status of Knee Joint, Fatigue, Fear of Falling For Elderly Woman Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Tai Chi self-help program on the pain, stiffness, difficulty in physical activity, fatigue, fear of falling for elderly woman patients with knee osteoarthritis. The subjects who agreed with the purpose of this study and participated in both pretest and post test were 40 patients. Of 40 patients included in the study, 19 were allocated to Tai Chi self-help group and 21 to control group. The Tai Chi self-help program was provided 6 session, one session was provided for 2hours. The selected dependent variables were pain, stiffness, difficulty in physical activity, fatigue, fear of falling. Not major differences were found on baseline characteristics between groups. Tai Chi self-help program showed a strong effect on pain and fatigue, but no significant differences were found in stiffness, difficulty in physical activity, & fear of falling Therefore, Tai Chi self-help program can be successful as nursing intervention to elderly people who suffer pain and fatigue due to knee osteoarthritis
